Alexis comes to SmithGroup with degrees in studio art and architecture, and career experience in senior living. “The work gives me a sense of belonging to something larger,” says Alexis, who once traveled to the South Pacific to study indigenous cultures through their art. She was first drawn to architecture because of the unique pairing of analytical problem solving and creative expression. “And it was the real impact that architecture can have on people’s lives that made me stick around,” she adds. Alexis was particularly buoyed by a senior living project she revisited a year after completion. “The renovation had dramatically increased social interaction, multi-generational neighborhood participation in events, and general resident happiness,” she reports. “As we age, we all want to maintain connections with family, friends and our communities. Using design and architecture to help give people valuable dignity and lead lives rich with meaning will always be part of my life.”
