Tom not only has the people skills to make him a valuable leader of any team, he also has the expertise to ensure that all the Is are dotted and Ts are crossed. His responsibilities as director of the Ann Arbor office include contract document preparation, cost analysis and regulatory review. Tom describes his work style as "an analytical approach and a passion for teamwork," a style that serves an increasingly integrated field. In 10 years, "single discipline firms will be extinct," he predicts. "All work will be delivered in an integrated way." Even the best team players need a little time to themselves. Tom finds it backpacking "in remote areas that most people never see," he reports. No wonder he points to renowned public-lands advocate Theodore Roosevelt as an inspirational figure, and to the Old Faithful Inn in Yellowstone National Park as an inspiring building. "Built in 1904, it set the standard for harmonizing architecture to its surroundings," suggests Tom.
