Description

The Duchossois Group (TDG) was eager to create a new corporate headquarters for its leading brand, the Chamberlain Group Incorporated (CGI)—the world’s largest manufacturer of residential and commercial door operators, gate openers and access control products. This new central campus consolidates multiple facilities and brings together the talent of its employees under one roof. TDG selected a 20-acre site in suburban Chicago that would support the CGI’s strategic relocation and growth plans. The company’s goal was to create an efficient and dynamic space that promotes a collaborative work environment, inspires its employees and potential recruits, and impresses its customers.

The new 223,000-square-foot headquarters creates a striking presence, an elegant arc of a building oriented to maximize views and daylighting. The building mass bends in response to the path of the sun. The building shape and envelope, which includes an integrated passive sun shading system with high performance glass, work together to optimize solar orientation and thermal performance. Interior and exterior seem to blend, thanks to flexible work modules that afford ample daylighting and allow generous views of mature oaks and woodlands. This highly flexible facility is designed for innovation and inspiration, with state-of-the-art engineering and testing laboratories; conference and training centers for customized employee and vendor education; a product showroom; a 200-seat café; a fitness center; and trails and other outdoor amenities.
