Facilities Master Plan Update

Memphis, Tennessee

473 acres/190 hectares - 3 campuses

Campus Planning

The flagship institution of the Tennessee Board of Regents System, the University of Memphis supports a diverse student population of more than 22,000 students across three campuses and five satellite locations in western Tennessee. With an expected increase in enrollment and research expenditures, the university was eager to improve collaboration and efficiency in the use, improvements and expansion of its facilities.  The SmithGroupJJR team was selected by TBR and the University to update the Facilities Master Plan for all locations.

SmithGroupJJR is leading a multi-disciplinary team to evaluate many facets of the university’s facilities, including classroom utilization, housing and dining opportunities, deferred maintenance concerns, campus infrastructure, circulation, parking, space needs and growth opportunities. It also is developing design guidelines to improve the architecture and open space aesthetics on each campus. Overall, the plan will craft a route for the university to improve recruitment and academic success through outstanding academic and research programs, a vibrant urban campus life, and a distinctive destination with a compelling physical presence.
