Representing the future of downtown Phoenix's commercial development, Freeport-McMoRan stands as an icon of the dense urban community that many envision for the city, while delineating a new standard of office design. The elegant tower—composed of articulated glass and steel and offering Class A office space, retail areas and on-site parking—holds the distinction of being the first high-rise to grace the skyline in nearly 10 years.
Promoting flexibility and productivity, the sophisticated design incorporates 9-foot, floor-to ceiling glass that is combined with careful building orientation, a dramatic curtainwall system and transparent shading elements like dichroic glass. The result maximizes views in all directions, with spectacular panoramas of the city and mountain ranges, while minimizing heat gain. The mixed-use facility combines eloquent design with state-of-art-technology responsive to its desert climate setting with unparalleled convenience.
SmithGroupJJR's design for the mixed-use tower also proved adaptable. Freeport-McMoRan Center ably served growing hospitality demands when building owners repositioned floors 11-18 into a 300-room Westin Hotel.
