LEED for New Construction & Major Renovations (NC) LEED-NC-Silver
When the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) came to SmithGroupJJR for assistance developing a new headquarters, their goal s were clear: meet their needs for new lab and office facilities while creating a functional, beautiful and environmentally responsible corporate campus. From site selection and initial programming all the way through multiple phases of facility design and expansion, the firm’s integrated design approach has provided NSF with a sustainable headquarters that has allowed them to thrive.
Located on a beautiful hilltop site set near an ecologically sensitive woodland creek that feeds the Huron River, NSF’s headquarters blends gracefully with the land while advancing a comprehensive stormwater management program. When NSF’s growth required a facility expansion nine years after original construction, this was easily accomplished thanks to SmithGroupJJR’s modular design concept and initial growth forecasts.
NSF’s dedication to sustainability and energy conservation is also embodied in the design. The facility earned LEED-Silver certification, while regulatory agencies lauded the campus development solution for exceeding environmental requirements.
