Wheeling Jesuit is a private, Catholic university with a student enrollment projected to double by 2017. To accommodate this ambitious growth, SmithGroupJJR prepared a campus master plan to strategically reposition the university for the changing dynamics of higher education. The plan targets major facilities enhancements and the establishment of a new downtown campus.
Main campus initiatives focus on the renovation and expansion of student-life facilities, including residence halls, an expanded recreation facility, new student center, and new competitive athletic fields. New academic facilities will include classroom and laboratory space and a renovated academic commons and library.
The downtown campus will provide a comprehensive live-learn environment emphasizing professional and graduate programs. Working in concert with the Regional Economic Development Partnership, the new location will also serve as a catalyst for downtown redevelopment. Town/gown development partnerships are already underway, thanks to a process that engaged local stakeholders with a shared vision.
