"Urban design allows me to combine my technical understanding of the physical environment with my desire to think at a higher altitude about problems affecting cities and campuses."

As a landscape architect and urban designer, Lauren focuses her talents on campus planning projects. “I began my career as a landscape architect focused on detailed design solutions for site-specific projects,” she explains. “Urban design allows me to combine my technical understanding of the physical environment with my desire to think at a higher altitude about problems affecting cities and campuses.” In 2009, the Michigan Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects recognized Lauren as the Emerging Professional of the Year— a fine homage to Beatrix Jones Farrand, who is “commonly regarded as the first female landscape architect in the U.S.,” explains Lauren. “Her courage and perseverance made it possible for women like myself to pursue a career in the design professions.” Lauren describes herself as “a self-proclaimed art museum junkie. I am incredibly inspired by all forms of fine art and am working toward seeing all the best art museums in the world.”
